Colorado's New Homeschool Law (SB26-023)
What is SB26-023?
Colorado Senate Bill 26-023 changed how publicly funded homeschool enrichment programs operate throughout the state. The law established new requirements for enrollment, funding, and district partnerships for programs like Rocky Mountain Enrichment.
These changes affect many homeschool enrichment programs across Colorado, not just RME.
Why did Rocky Mountain Enrichment change this year?
The changes were required to comply with Colorado law.
Over the past several months, we’ve worked closely with Colorado Springs School District 11 to build an enrollment process that complies with the new legislation while allowing us to continue providing the enriching, relationship-focused program our families know and love.
Is Rocky Mountain Enrichment still a homeschool enrichment program?
Yes! Our mission hasn’t changed. We’re still a one-day-per-week Montessori-inspired homeschool enrichment program designed to complement the incredible work families are already doing at home.
Why is District 11 involved?
Under Colorado’s updated law, Rocky Mountain Enrichment now partners with Colorado Springs School District 11 to provide state-funded homeschool enrichment.
District 11 serves as our educational partner so we can continue offering our programs in compliance with Colorado law.
Do all students enroll through District 11?
Yes. Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, all Rocky Mountain Enrichment students enroll through our District 11 partnership.
Does my child have to live inside District 11?
No. Students do not have to reside within District 11 boundaries to attend Rocky Mountain Enrichment.
Am I enrolling my child in public school?
Your child continues learning primarily at home while participating in Rocky Mountain Enrichment through our partnership with District 11.
Because enrollment requirements have changed under Colorado law, District 11 now serves as the public education partner that allows eligible homeschool students to participate in RME.

Do I still homeschool the rest of the week?
Yes. Rocky Mountain Enrichment continues to provide one enriching day of learning each week while families direct their child’s education at home.
Will I still choose my homeschool curriculum?
Yes. Families remain responsible for their child’s learning outside of their time at Rocky Mountain Enrichment.
Has anything changed about the actual classes?
Very little.
While some administrative and enrollment processes have changed, our classrooms continue to focus on:

About Rocky Mountain Enrichment
What ages do you serve?
We currently offer programs for children ages 5–14, including:
- Lower Elementary STEAM (ages 5–9)
- Upper Elementary/Middle School Project-Based Learning (ages 10–14)
- Nature Program (ages 5–13)
How often does my child attend?
Students attend Rocky Mountain Enrichment one day each week.
Families select their preferred class day during enrollment.
What does a typical day look like?
Our programs include a balance of:
- Morning meeting
- Individual and small-group lessons
- Hands-on work cycles
- Outdoor play
- Art and PE
- Gardening
- Social-emotional learning
- Lunch and community time
Nature students spend their day exploring Colorado’s outdoors through hiking, observation, nature study, and guided play.
Is Rocky Mountain Enrichment a Montessori school?
We’re a Montessori-inspired homeschool enrichment program.
We incorporate many Montessori principles including:
- Self-directed learning
- Hands-on materials
- Mixed-age collaboration
- Respect for each child’s pace
- Independence
- Practical life skills
How do you communicate with families?
Most communication happens through the RME App and Parent Portal.
Families use the app to:
- Receive announcements
- Communicate with teachers
- Report absences
- Register for events
- View classroom photos
- Receive weather updates for Nature classes
Do you offer field trips?
Yes!
Throughout the school year we offer:
- Field Trips
- Family Connection Days
- Share Your Specialty presentations
- Community events
- Birthday celebrations
Many of these opportunities are optional and designed to strengthen our homeschool community.
What should my child bring?
Students should bring:
- Water bottle
- Lunch
- Two snacks
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Comfortable shoes
Nature students should also bring appropriate outdoor gear based on the season.
How do I report an absence?
Absences should be entered through the RME App.
If you’re running late, simply send your teacher a message through your Family Group chat.
How do birthday celebrations work?
We celebrate birthdays using the Montessori Birthday Walk, a meaningful tradition that honors each year of a child’s life.
Families sign up in advance and are invited to create a Birthday Book or slideshow to share with the class.
Can parents volunteer?
Absolutely!
We love parent involvement and regularly invite families to volunteer in classrooms, assist during events, share their professions through Share Your Specialty, and participate in Family Connection Days.
